Dinham House was originally built in 1630, featuring stone mullions, a downstairs solar with a large fireplace, and a square stone-lined well near the kitchen. Likely serving as a summer house or hunting lodge, it was built by the Arundell Yeo family, who owned farms throughout Cornwall and beyond.
In 1840, a Regency-style front was added, giving the house an Italianate feel. The front fields, known as “Dinham Lawns,” were enhanced with holm oaks and pine trees, and later additions included a coach house and a Victorian cottage at the front drive.
Joanna Wight purchased Dinham in 1968 for £68,000, and she and her husband Glen became the third generation of the Wight family to live at Dinham. Together, they carried out extensive renovations both inside the house and around its grounds.
The Coach House became a welcoming home for visitors, while Tregutt Cottage housed the housekeeper and gardeners. As keen gardeners themselves, Joanna and Glen created the beautiful, individual garden spaces that can be enjoyed today.
After a career in the Army, Aldwin and his wife Yasmina moved permanently to Dinham in 2002, having married there themselves in 2000.
Their twin sons, William & George, and youngest son Henry, were raised on the estate and now help to run it as a wedding and events venue, as well as a peaceful retreat for visitors seeking the beauty and tranquillity of Cornwall.
